Planning an office move with minimal downtime

An office move is a project, not just a van turning up. Done well, the business barely skips a beat; done badly, it costs days. Here’s how we approach a commercial move to keep the downtime down.

Survey and sequence

Every good office move starts with a proper survey — what’s moving, what’s being replaced, and the access and lift situation at both ends. From that comes a sequence: the order things come apart, travel and go back together so the business can function throughout.

The aim is a plan detailed enough that moving day is just execution. Surprises are the enemy of a low-downtime move.

IT and equipment

The technology is usually the anxious part. Servers, workstations, phones and specialist kit need careful handling and a clear plan for disconnection and reconnection — ideally coordinated with your IT people so systems are ready when the desks are.

Everything gets protected properly for transit and labelled so it lands where it belongs. A monitor in the wrong room is a small thing; a hundred of them is a lost morning.

Labelling and crates

A crate-and-label system turns chaos into order. Colour-coded by department or destination room, numbered and listed, so unpacking is a matter of following the plan rather than opening boxes to guess.

We provide the crates and the system. Your team packs their own desks into them, and the whole move stays traceable from old building to new.

Timing it right

The best office moves happen when the business isn’t trying to work through them — out of hours, over a weekend, around your quiet periods. We plan around your schedule, not ours.

Talk to us early. The more lead time a commercial move has, the smoother and the less disruptive it is when the day comes.
